China says trade talks were 'constructive,' Washington to reschedule farm trip

China's Ministry of Commerce said last week's trade discussions between Beijing and Washington were "constructive," as a Chinese official reportedly said talks on agriculture yielded a positive outcome, dismissing concerns over a canceled visit to American farms.

China said both parties "conducted constructive discussions on economic and trade issues" during a two-day deputy ministerial-level consultations that ended Sept. 20 in Washington.

Han Jun, the Office of the Central Rural Work Leading Group's deputy director and a member of China's trade delegation, said discussions on agriculture were productive, ahead of the high-level trade talks next month, Reuters reported, citing state-backed media group Yicai.

The remarks come after the Chinese delegation's trip to U.S. farms scheduled for this week was canceled, raising concerns about the progress in trade talks.

The cancellation was done by request of the U.S. and was unrelated to the trade talks, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Han reportedly said Washington will reschedule the visit.

Chinese negotiators are due to head to Washington in October for face-to-face trade talks with their U.S. counterparts. Both sides are looking to hold the meeting around Oct. 10, according to Bloomberg News.
