The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission extended the window for public comment in the agency's review of its almost 20-year-old natural gas pipeline permitting policy.
In a May 23 notice, FERC added another 30 days to the comment period, pushing the deadline to July 25. The extension was issued because of "the complexity of the issues, and our desire to ensure the best possible record," the commission said.
The commission launched the policy review at an April 19 meeting and published the notice of inquiry in the Federal Register on April 25 with an original deadline of June 25. The commission said the review will consider possible updates to the policy statement that guides pipeline permitting after significant changes within the U.S. gas industry in the last two decades. The commission encouraged pipeline companies, environmental groups, landowners and other stakeholders with an interest in pipeline projects to participate. (FERC docket PL18-1)
