Columbia Gas gets federal nod to start construction on Ohio gas pipe upgrade

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved Columbia Gas Transmission LLC to begin construction on an upgrade for its natural gas pipeline system in Ohio.

The nearly $183 million project, which FERC authorized November 2017, is part of Columbia Gas' larger modernization program for aging infrastructure on its system. The project will include abandoning 17.5 miles of the B system in Fairfield County, replacing 14.6 miles of aged coated pipe with modern coated pipe and installing 7.6 miles of pipeline in Fairfield County to connect the Columbia Gas K system to the B system.

FERC's authorization allows the company to begin construction on all but 11 tracts for which Columbia Gas is still in the process of negotiating property rights.

Columbia Gas, a subsidiary of TransCanada Corp.'s Columbia Pipeline Group Inc., applied for the upgrade project in September 2016. The company at the time estimated that the project could be placed into service in September 2018. (FERC docket CP16-498)
