Japan's Yamato collaborates with JD.com to deliver products in China

Japanese logistics company Yamato Holdings Co. Ltd. signed an agreement with Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com Inc. to deliver items from Japanese retailers to customers across China beginning in 2018, Nikkei Asian Review reported Dec. 28.

The move is expected to increase online sales of Japanese products in the country, according to the report.

Yamato will manage international shipping from Japan to China and utilize the online retailer's network to deliver items to a customer's address in China, the report said. The two companies have yet to decide responsibility for clearing customs, according to the Nikkei Asian Review report. Yamato and JD.com are discussing the online retailer's cold-chain network and other delivery methods to maintain the quality of products in transit, the report said.

JD.com was previously reported to be considering delivering fresh foods and other perishables from Japan across China in a bid to expand its business, according to the report.
