ZTE, Telefónica to create virtual network in Latin America

Chinese telecommunications company ZTE Corp. on Dec. 19 announced it will join Spanish telco Telefónica De Espana Sa in building a large-scale virtual IP Multimedia Subsystem, or vIMS, network in Latin America.

The network will provide vIMS-based Voice over LTE and Voice over Wi-Fi services for Telefónica customers in seven Latin American countries including Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador and Uruguay.

The solution will be launched as a virtual network function over ZTE's infrastructure and will be integrated with Telefónica's legacy networks.
