Shell upstream director to step down; successor named

Oil major Royal Dutch Shell PLC announced Jan. 17 that Wael Sawan will take over as its upstream director, effective July 1.

Sawan, Shell's executive vice president deepwater, will take over the position from Andy Brown, who is leaving the company Sept. 30 after 35 years.

"I am grateful to Andy for his strong leadership of the upstream business, particularly having improved business performance during the recent years of low oil price," Shell CEO Ben van Beurden said. "Through his disciplined focus on efficiency, portfolio optimization, safety and talent development he leaves our upstream business fit for the future."
