Japan Tobacco Inc. on Aug. 21 reported that its domestic cigarette sales in July rose 3% year over year to ¥43 billion from ¥41.8 billion a year ago.
The Tokyo-based cigarette-maker said it sold 6.7 billion cigarettes in July, down 5.5% from 7.1 billion cigarettes sold a year ago.
Year-to-date, the company's domestic cigarette sales grew by 0.2% to ¥283.7 billion from ¥283.1 billion in 2018. From January to June, the company sold a total of 44 billion cigarettes, a decrease of 7.2% from the same period a year ago.
The company's domestic market share for the month was 60.1%.
In June, Japan Tobacco's domestic cigarette sales fell 4.7% year over year.
As of Aug. 20, US$1 was equivalent to ¥106.38.
