Samsonite International SA plans to make its standalone stores exude a more female-friendly vibe to increase women's revenue share in the business to 25% by 2021, the South China Morning Post reported Dec. 10, citing CEO Ramesh Taniwala.
Not doing so would be "leaving money on the table" as women could account for 50% of total sales in the next 10 to 15 years, Taniwala told the publication.
The company's refitted stores in Europe have seen sales grow up to 15% since October, according to the report. Samsonite's high-end brand Tumi, which it acquired in March for US$1.8 billion, reportedly has also seen women's share in sales revenue rise 18% from zero five years ago.
Lipault, a French luggage brand bought by Samsonite in 2014, is the company's line of luggage targeted specifically at women, the report added.
