Novozymes A/S has made its first foray into the corn ethanol yeast market with the launch of its yeast platform Innova Drive.
The biotechnology company said Innova Drive can cut fermentation time by up to two hours compared to current yeasts and that it can withstand adverse conditions such as higher organic acids and temperatures, resulting in higher ethanol output and lower output costs.
"Yeast is a major bottleneck that requires constant care and attention. Innova Drive is a response to the needs of the ethanol industry, and resets expectations for how tough a yeast can be," said Brian Brazeau, vice president for biofuels commercial.
