Equinor, SSE select GE turbines for world's largest offshore wind project

GE Renewable Energy was named the preferred turbine supplier for the world's largest offshore wind project, according to an Oct. 1 company statement.

The 3.6-GW Dogger Bank wind farm being developed by a joint venture between Equinor ASA and SSE Renewables Ltd. will comprise three 1.2-GW projects in the U.K. North Sea approximately 130 kilometers from the Yorkshire coast. All three projects received contracts in the U.K.'s most recent renewable power auction.

The wind farm is expected to trigger about £9 billion of capital investment between 2020 and 2026. A financial investment decision is anticipated by the end of 2020, after which GE will be confirmed as the turbine supplier.

Construction is expected to start in early 2020, and first energy generation is expected in 2023.

SSE Renewables is a unit of SSE PLC.
