Nuclear update: Availability rises with output hikes at Hatch 1, La Salle 2

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability climbed early Jan. 27 to 96.11%, up from 95.56% on Jan. 26 and above the 91.11% reported on the same day in 2016.

Working to help lift output was the ongoing increase in production at Exelon Corp.'s LaSalle 2 reactor in Illinois. The unit, which was running at 92% early Jan. 27, up from 25% on Jan. 26, was taken offline Jan. 23 for brief repairs.

Also, Southern Co. Inc.'s Hatch 1 in Georgia, which had been offline Jan. 26, was operating at 33% as of early Jan. 27.

Conversely, PG&E Corp.'s Diablo Canyon 2 unit in California saw output trimmed from 98% on Jan. 26 to 55% as of early Jan. 27.
