StanChart appoints new group COO

Standard Chartered PLC named David Whiteing group COO, effective Sept. 10.

The U.K. lender said the newly expanded role will now include its global and country operations teams, which were previously within its IT operations.

Whiteing joins from Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where he served as group executive for enterprise services and chief information officer. He will be based in Singapore and report to CEO Bill Winters.

Whiteing will take over from Doris Honold, who will remain with the bank in an as-yet-undetermined role within its management team. Honold will also work with Whiteing and Chief Information Officer Michael Gorriz to oversee the separation of StanChart's operations teams from the IT division.

The appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Meanwhile, Gorriz will continue to head the bank's digital transformation and innovation programs.
