Nestlé UK & Ireland reports 7.4% sugar reduction in products since 2015

Nestlé U.K. and Ireland said it has cut 7.4% or 2.6 billion teaspoons of sugar and over 60 billion calories from its confectionery offerings since 2015, according to a company report published March 7.

The Nestlé SA-owned unit is eyeing a 10% sugar reduction by the end of 2018.

The company also cut eight tons of saturated fat from its Fab ice cream recipe in 2015, 168 million grams of salt from its breakfast cereals in 2016 and more than 13 billion calories from its confectionery products as part of its 250-calorie cap pledge, according to the report.

Further, cereals made by the Swiss food and beverage giant's unit contained 383 million fewer teaspoons of sugar in 2016 compared to its cereals sold in 2003.

The report also mentioned that Nestlé Waters U.K. in 2017 introduced new flavored water products to its Perrier brand with no added sugar.
