Amazon unveils competitive gaming service for developers

Amazon.com Inc. unveiled Amazon GameOn, a cross-platform, competitive gaming service for developers.

The new platform will let developers integrate competitions natively into their games on mobile, PC and console through a set of flexible APIs, the company said March 19.

GameOn is built on Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure and works on any operating system.

Developers can use GameOn APIs for free until May 1, after which, the first 35,000 plays per month are free for a limited time, then developers will pay 0.3 cents per play. Real-world prizing fulfilled by the online retailer is only available in the U.S. at launch.
