U.S. streaming giant Netflix Inc. is eyeing tie-ups with Indian cable TV operators to expand its reach in India, The Economic Times (India) reported, citing Nigel Baptiste, director, partner engagement at Netflix.
Baptiste said that Netflix is "actively engaged with cable operator partners in India to get Netflix included in set-top boxes" across millions of homes in the country.
Netflix is also in talks with Asian cable operators in Malaysia and Singapore, he added.
The partnerships reportedly allow Netflix to offer smart TV experience to consumers without smart TVs.
In March, Netflix inked deals with India's leading direct-to-home and mobile platforms, including a deal with Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Videocon d2h that saw the Netflix app integrated with both companies' DTH set-top-boxes, with the latter even providing a dedicated Netflix button on the remote.
