Report: Goldcorp-Teck Chilean JV set to deliver environmental study by year-end

The NuevaUnion gold-copper joint venture between Goldcorp Inc. and Teck Resources Ltd. in Chile is set to deliver an environmental impact statement by the end of 2018 after completing feasibility studies, Reuters reported May 11, citing a source at the mine.

The project, which joins two mines from each company, could require an initial investment of US$3.5 billion.

"The plan is to present the EIA ... and that the project enter into operation by 2022-2023, " the source said.

The project is expected to have a 36-year mine life and produce 224,000 tonnes of copper, 269,000 ounces of gold and 1,700 tonnes of molybdenum during its first five years.
