BHP Billiton Group spinoff South32 Ltd. appointed Vanessa Torres its chief technology officer. An effective date has not been confirmed.
Torres is joining from BHP, where she worked for more than 10 years in strategy and operations, most recently as the vice president of operational infrastructure at BHP Iron Ore, according to a Feb. 16 release.
She also worked at Vale SA in technology and senior leadership roles in business development and projects.
South32 CEO Graham Kerr said, "We see technology as a key enabler in driving safety and production improvements at our operations, and Vanessa's knowledge and operational experience position her well to lead us into this next phase of performance improvement."
