Japanese producer prices climb further in December 2019

Japan's annual producer prices climbed further in December 2019, preliminary data from the Bank of Japan showed.

The producer price index increased by 0.9% on a yearly basis in December 2019, following a 0.1% rise in November 2019.

Prices of beverages and foods grew 1.1% year over year in December 2019, while those of electric power, gas and water dropped 2.3%. Prices of chemicals and related products fell 2.8%, while textile prices climbed 2.4%.

On a monthly basis, producer prices climbed 0.1% in December 2019, following a 0.2% rise in the previous month.

Annual export prices declined by 4.1% in yen terms in December 2019, slowing from a 5.9% fall in the previous month. Import prices dropped 6.8% on a yearly basis in December 2019, following a revised decrease of 11.3% in November 2019.
