The seasonally adjusted value of retail trade in Italy rose 0.8% month over month in May, following a revised 0.6% decline in April and beating Econoday's forecast of a 0.2% increase, according to provisional data from the National Institute of Statistics.
In volume terms, retail trade was up 0.9%. The seasonally unadjusted value of trade edged up 0.4% in May from a year earlier, while volume slipped 0.2%.
Large-scale distribution rose 1.8% on a yearly basis, while small-scale distribution dropped 1.5%. Online sales surged 13.9% from May 2017.
In the three months to May, value was down 0.1% while volume fell 0.2%, compared to the three months to February.
