Enel SpA subsidiary Enel Green Power Germany agreed to co-develop a 22-MW lithium-ion battery storage project in Cremzow, Germany, along with German wind energy company ENERTRAG AG and Swiss energy storage company Leclanché SA.
The facility is to be owned by a special purpose vehicle which is 90% owned by Enel and 10% by ENERTRAG. Leclanché will provide engineering, procurement and construction services, in charge of integrating battery and power conversion systems and energy management software.
The planned investment to build the facility is about €17 million, according to a Feb. 20 release.
The Cremzow facility, Enel's first storage project in Germany, will provide grid stabilization services through primary frequency regulation and will later be integrated with ENERTRAG wind farms. The companies plan to for a 2-MW section of the plant to begin operation in April, while the remaining 20 MW are expected to go online by year-end.
