Nord Gold to build solar power station for Bissa, Bouly mines in Burkina Faso

Nord Gold SE said Oct. 22 that it entered into an exclusive agreement with a consortium consisting of Total Eren SA and Africa Energy Management Platform to construct a 13-megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant that will provide 100% renewable energy to daily operations of the Bissa and Bouly gold mines in Burkina Faso.

The construction of the new power plant will start shortly, with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2020. The plant will significantly reduce the projects' reliance on the existing thermal power plant.

Under the agreement, the consortium will develop, finance, construct and operate a solar photovoltaic plant complemented by a battery storage system, reducing the mines' fuel consumption by about 6.4 million liters and carbon dioxide emission by approximately 18,000 tonnes annually.

The new plant will also generate a number of full-time roles for local employees in addition to those currently employed at the mine sites.
