Democrat Doug Jones is expected to win the special election for the U.S. Senate in Alabama over Republican Roy Moore after a controversial election.
With 98% of the vote counted at about 10:50 p.m. ET, Jones led 50% to 49%.
Moore had initially been favored to win the heavily Republican state, but was hampered by allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct with teenage girls.
Jones will fill the seat vacated when incumbent Jeff Sessions was appointed U.S. attorney general by President Donald Trump.
