Select Sands places 26 workers on temporary furlough at Ark. frac sand project

Select Sands Corp. placed 26 employees at its Northern White frac sand property in Arkansas on temporary furlough until further notice.

The company said Oct. 15 that the decision was driven by a current industrywide market disruption, which has affected demand for silica fracking sand from Northern White. Shipments and limited production, meanwhile, continue as Select Sands pursues additional opportunities.

Select Sands was forced to halt its Independence expansion project in late September due to the low demand for the product.

"The recent disruption in the industry has required us to take these necessary steps to manage our business successfully while minimizing the impact to resume improvements when frac sand demand strengthens," President and CEO Zig Vitols said, adding that Select Sands looks forward to bringing the full team back on board as soon as possible.
