Report: Apple in talks to buy chips from Chinese company

Apple Inc. is holding talks to buy NAND flash chips from Chinese company Yangtze Memory Technologies Co. Ltd., The Nikkei (Tokyo) reported Feb. 14.

Sources with knowledge of the matter said Apple will use the chips for new iPhone models and other products for sale in the Chinese domestic market specifically.

The tech giant currently buys NAND flash memory chips for its iPhones from Toshiba Corp. of Japan, Western Digital Corp. of the U.S., SK Hynix Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. of South Korea.
