Report: Spotify begins development of sports podcasts

Spotify Technology SA, the parent of Spotify AB, is creating a number of daily sports shows, Bloomberg News reported, citing sources.

The company may begin with a single show before launching more podcasts. One of the planned programs will cover recaps of sports on a daily basis and will run for about 10 minutes.

During Spotify's third-quarter earnings call in October 2019, CEO Daniel Ek said the company is aggressively investing in podcasts and will start monetizing the audio shows in 2020.

The music streaming company acquired podcast producers Gimlet Media Inc. and Cutler Media LLC d/b/a Parcast in 2019.
