U.S. officials have reached North Korea to make arrangements for a potential summit between the two countries' leaders, U.S. President Donald Trump said in a tweet May 27.
"Our United States team has arrived in North Korea to make arrangements for the Summit between Kim Jong Un and myself. I truly believe North Korea has brilliant potential and will be a great economic and financial Nation one day," Trump said.
Separately, a "pre-advance" U.S. team left for Singapore to work on the logistics of the potential summit, Reuters reported, citing White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.
The move follows a surprise meeting between North Korean leader Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in on May 26 to discuss peace commitments and North Korea's potential summit with the U.S.
Trump on May 24 called off the planned June 12 summit with Kim in Singapore, but said the next day that the summit might still happen.
South Korea's KOSPI index rose 0.74% to close at 2,478.96 on May 28.
