Ahold's Stop & Shop to launch driverless grocery vehicles in Boston

Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV on Jan. 16 said that its U.S.-based Stop & Shop chain partnered with San Francisco-based startup Robomart to deploy self-driving, refrigerated grocery vehicles in its Greater Boston area stores starting this spring.

The Robomart vehicles will carry a variety of Stop & Shop produce, meal kits and convenience items directly to customers' doorstep by using a mobile app.

Ahold Delhaize said all Robomart vehicles are autonomous, powered by electricity and remotely controlled from a Robomart facility.

In September 2018, Ahold's Albert Heijn chain opened its first cashierless stores.
