Report: Mozambique government approves Anadarko's $20B LNG project plan

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. garnered the approval of Mozambique's council of ministers for the development plan of a planned $20 billion LNG project to be built in the north part of the country, Bloomberg News reported Feb. 6.

The Area 1 onshore LNG plant, Mozambique's first, would have two initial LNG trains and a total capacity of 12 million tonnes per annum. Anadarko finalized plans with the government in July 2017 and expects to make a final investment decision after obtaining enough sales and purchase agreements, the report said.

Anadarko has also signed an agreement with Japan's Tohoku Electric Power Co. Inc. in the fourth quarter of 2017 under which the utility will purchase gas volumes from the project.
