Bloomingdale's to launch subscription-based apparel rental service

U.S. luxury department store chain Bloomingdale's is launching an online subscription rental service called My List in September, Women's Wear Daily reported Aug. 8, citing Denise Magid, executive vice president and general merchandise manager at Bloomingdale's.

The Macy's Inc. subsidiary will offer ready-to-wear women's apparel from over 60 brands, as well as more than 100 exclusive pieces, for a monthly subscription fee of $149, the report said. Customers can rent up to 10 pieces from an assortment of apparel categories, WWD added.

According to the report, the shift in consumer preferences brought about by urbanization led to the department store's decision to offer the subscription-based clothing rental service.

The report said Macy's could also start a similar service if Bloomingdale's My List service proves to be successful.
