Nexa's Aripuana zinc project in Brazil expected to start production by 2021

Nexa Resources SA expects to start commercial production by 2021 at the Brazil-based Aripuana zinc project, which the company acquired by buying out Karmin Exploration Inc., Mining.com reported Oct. 21, citing an interview with the company's CEO Tito Martins.

Once operational, the US$354 million project will become the world's second biggest zinc mine, next to Hindustan Zinc Ltd.'s Rampura Agucha in India.

Martins said that the company expects the refined zinc market to remain in deficit this year, which when added to low inventories, will maintain the strength of zinc fundamentals.

Aripuana is part of Nexa's efforts to grow and expand its presence on the global zinc and copper markets.
