Certarus Ltd. reached an agreement with Enbridge Inc. subsidiary Union Energy Solutions Ltd. for an alliance and investment in Certarus' compressed natural gas infrastructure to serve markets that are not connected to pipelines in Northern Ontario.
Certarus will expand its delivery of compressed natural gas, or CNG, to customers in the mining, forestry, and industrial sectors that now use diesel, bunker oil or propane.
"Access to a reliable and economic energy choice is a game changer for northern Ontario," said Cynthia Hansen, president Enbridge's utility and power operations. "Through CNG, large businesses can significantly lower their energy costs, be more competitive and create local jobs."
Certarus' first terminal, in Timmins, Ontario, supplies large mining operations. The company will build additional CNG terminals in Red Rock, Ontario, during the second quarter and in Southern Ontario during the first quarter of 2020.
