Northwester 2 wind farm starts electricity supply to offshore grid in Belgium

The first turbine at the Northwester 2 offshore wind farm in Belgium has started supplying electricity to Elia System Operator SA's modular offshore grid.

Construction works are still under way at the 219-MW project, which is expected to be fully operational before the summer. Once online, it will supply about 230,000 households with green energy, according to a Jan. 13 news release.

Northwester 2 NV, the project's holding company, is 70% owned by Belgian offshore wind developer Parkwind NV and 30% by Japan-based Sumitomo Corp.

In March 2019, RWE AG subsidiary RWE Supply & Trading GmbH contracted for 100% of the output from Northwester 2.
