Williams Cos. Inc. has completed an expansion of its Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Co. LLC system designed to add 190,000 Dth/d of natural gas transportation capacity.
Williams placed into service a portion of the Rivervale South to Market expansion project on July 1, providing 140,000 Dth/d of capacity. The company started up the remaining 50,000 Dth/d of capacity Sept. 1. The expansion boosted the Transcontinental Gas, or Transco, pipeline's capacity to a total of 17.2 million Dth/d, according to a Sept. 3 news release.
The project, which the developer started building early this year, involves uprating 10.3 miles of existing Transco pipeline, building less than a mile of new pipeline looping and related modifications of existing facilities.
FERC approved the roughly $128 million expansion project in August 2018 and gave the developers permission to begin construction in October 2018. Recently, the commission granted Transco an in-service authorization for the remaining gas pipeline facilities associated with the project, which would accommodate growing gas demand from northeastern customers in New Jersey and New York. Williams owns and operates more than 30,000 miles of pipelines, including the Transco system, which comprises about 10,000 miles of pipeline with a mainline extending nearly 1,800 miles between south Texas and New York City.
