US Senate passes resolution blocking Trump's national emergency declaration

The U.S. Senate followed the House of Representatives to approve a resolution blocking President Donald Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the country's border with Mexico in an attempt to secure funding for a wall, CNN reported.

Trump holds the right to veto the measure, which was passed in the Senate in a 59-41 vote with the support of 12 Republicans.

The president declared a national emergency Feb. 15 while signing an appropriations bill to keep parts of the federal government running until the end of September, as the bill did not include funds he had demanded for a border wall with Mexico.
