Marathon Petroleum senior vice president to retire at start of 2019

Marathon Petroleum Corp. announced Aug. 10 that Senior Vice President of supply, distribution and planning C. Michael Palmer will retire on Jan. 1, 2019.

The oil refiner named Palmer executive vice president, and he will assist with the integration of Marathon and Andeavor upon the merger's closure, which is expected on Oct. 1.

Palmer began his career with Marathon Oil Corp. in 1976 as a financial analyst, and remained with Marathon Petroleum when it was spun off from Marathon Oil in 2011.

"As we expand our supply and distribution network to reflect our coast-to-coast footprint, Mike's 42 years of experience with [Marathon] and his expertise in our business has been invaluable," Marathon Petroleum Chairman and CEO Gary Heminger said. "We're grateful that we will continue to benefit from Mike's knowledge during our integration, and are pleased he will help lead us through this critical transition period."
