Samsung to expand production capacity in India

As expected, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. will double the production capacity for smartphones and fridges at its Noida factory in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The South Korean tech giant said June 7 it will spend 49.15 billion Indian rupees to expand the Noida facility on an additional 35 acres of land and that the investment will create thousands of new jobs.

The move by the Samsung Group unit follows Apple Inc.'s decision to start manufacturing iPhones in India.

As of June 7, US$1 was equivalent to 64.42 Indian rupees.
