Italy's unemployment rate edged up 0.1 percentage point quarter over quarter to 11.1% in the first quarter of 2018, the country's National Institute of Statistics said.
Employment rate remained stable at 58.2% as the number of fixed-term employees rose further while the number of self-employed people and permanent employees decreased. The inactivity rate edged down by 0.1 percentage point from the previous quarter to 34.4%.
Wages and salaries edged up by 0.1% from the previous quarter but remained stable on an annual basis. Labor costs increased 0.3% quarter over quarter and by 0.4% from a year earlier.
In industrial and service enterprises, employee jobs increased by 0.8% in the quarter from the previous quarter but number of hours worked per employee fell 0.5%. On an annual basis, jobs were up 3.3% and hours worked remained unchanged.
