Oilfield services company Petrofac Ltd. secured a "major" contract extension to serve as contractor for Repsol Sinopec Resources UK Ltd.'s operations in the North Sea.

Petrofac will provide engineering support services for brownfield modifications and projects across the joint venture's operated assets and oil terminal at Flotta in the Orkney Islands, Scotland, according to a Sept. 4 news release.

The terminal has a storage capacity of 4.5 million barrels of oil and can also accommodate 100,000 bbl of LPG.

Spanish energy company Repsol SA owns a 51% interest in the joint venture following its acquisition of assets from the former Talisman Energy Inc., now Repsol Oil & Gas Canada Inc. China Petrochemical Corp. subsidiary Addax Petroleum UK Ltd. owns the remaining stake.
