ABC cancels 'Roseanne' following Barr's racist tweet

Walt Disney Co.'s ABC (US) canceled sitcom "Roseanne," following a controversial tweet by the show's star Roseanne Barr. The network's axing of the revived comedy came after Barr called former President Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett an offspring of the "Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes." Barr subsequently apologized.

Washington Watch: Calif. Senate braces for court showdown over net neutrality bill

California legislators appear poised for a legal battle that would pit efforts to restore and expand upon Obama-era broadband regulations in the state against federal regulators' efforts to end them. The California Senate on May 30 approved S.B. 822, a bill designed to ban any practice that hinders or manipulates consumer access to the internet to favor certain types of content, services or devices.

Internet giants say online election ads shouldn't be treated like TV, print

The Internet Association, which includes Alphabet Inc., Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc. among its members, expressed concerns about two proposals the U.S. Federal Election Commission is considering to increase the transparency of online election advertising. The internet trade group said May 29 it filed comments with the Federal Election Commission expressing its belief that while technology should be used to increase transparency in political communications, any rules adopted need to be flexible so as not to constrain future advancements.

Tennis Channel nets slew of new auto deals for its French Open coverage

An expanded programming lineup and footprint have helped the Tennis Channel (US) add a bevy of new clients across various categories, notably automotive, to its lineup of French Open advertisers. The Tennis Channel will present some 500 live and encore linear hours and an additional 700 via hybrid over-the-top service Tennis Channel Plus through the June 10 conclusion of its 12th year of coverage from the clay-court Grand Slam event in Paris

FCC advances recovery funding efforts in Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands

With Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands still recovering from the hurricanes of 2017, the Federal Communications Commission is moving forward on its plan to dedicate nearly $900 million in funding to restore connectivity in the U.S. territories. The FCC on May 29 approved an order that will provide an immediate infusion of about $64 million in new funding for short-term restoration efforts.
