* AT&T Inc. teamed up with Nokia Corp. for internet of things deployments around the world. The companies will use Nokia's Worldwide IoT Network Grid to offer AT&T's enterprise customers access to Nokia's global IoT ecosystem.

* SoftBank Group Corp.'s SoftBank Vision Fund is investing $2.25 billion in General Motors Co.'s self-driving unit GM Cruise Holdings LLC.

* Milestone Partners LLC said June 6 that it acquired mTAB LLC, a provider of database services and cloud-based data analytics platforms for enterprise clients.

* Commvault Systems Inc. teamed up with Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. unit Alibaba Cloud Computing Co. to offer hybrid cloud data management services.

5G AND THE INTERNET OF THINGS

* Mexican telecom watchdog IFT aims to complete the process of freeing up spectrum in the 600 MHz band for 5G services in the country by the first quarter of 2019, Telecompaper reported June 12.

* Nokia said June 7 it had cooperated with T-Mobile US Inc. on completing a bidirectional over-the-air 5G data session on a 3GPP-compliant 5G New Radio system in T-Mobile's lab in Bellevue, Wash.

* Vodafone Group PLC's Vodafone Portugal may be able to launch commercial 5G services by 2020, Telecompaper reported June 7, citing Sapo.

* Philippine telco Smart Communications Inc. said June 6 it achieved speeds beyond 6.5 Gbps in a 5G trial conducted with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. at the PLDT Inc. unit's 5G Technolab.

* Telia Co. AB said June 5 it has joined forces with Ericsson and the Swedish KTH Royal Institute of Technology to boost 5G development in Sweden.

* Bharti Airtel Ltd. is in advanced talks with Verizon Communications Inc. for a broad IoT collaboration, The Economic Times reported June 6.

* Ericsson has secured a €250 million credit facility from the European Investment Bank for its 5G-related research and development activities, according to a May 31 news release.

VIRTUAL REALITY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

* Alphabet Inc. unit Google Inc. will not use AI for technologies that can cause harm, including weapons and surveillance software, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a June 7 official blog post.

* Alibaba Cloud has rolled out ET Agricultural Brain, an AI program tailored to China's agricultural sector.

* Reliance Jio is joining forces with Mumbai-based film and media arts institute Whistling Woods International to set up a lab dedicated to VR and augmented reality, Mint reported June 5.

* Xiaomi Corp. has launched a VR headset with Facebook Inc. subsidiary Oculus VR LLC for the Chinese market.

* Chinese AI startup SenseTime Group Ltd. has raised $620 million during a second funding round in two months, increasing its valuation to more than $4.5 billion, the company said May 31.

DRONES AND OTHER DEVICES

* SoftBank Vision Fund has led a series D funding round of $250 million in data storage company Cohesity Inc., according to a June 11 statement.

* Google is not renewing its partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense for a program that helped the department identify and track drones through AI, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a source.
