FERC clears Macquarie to acquire and deactivate NJ cogeneration plant

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved a request by Riverstone Holdings LLC to sell a combined-cycle cogeneration plant in Bayonne, N.J., to Macquarie Infrastructure Corp.

Under the transaction, Macquarie Infrastructure will purchase and deactivate Bayonne Cogeneration, a 163-MW natural gas- and distillate fuel oil-fired plant, from Riverstone Holdings subsidiary Talen Energy Corp., according to a May 25 order.

The facility is connected to the PJM Interconnection balancing area through Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. subsidiary Public Service Electric and Gas Co. PJM has approved plans to deactivate the facility on June 1, according to the April 3 FERC application. The facility will still be able to produce steam. (FERC docket EC18-80)
