Top banking moves: Franklin Financial Network, Pacific Mercantile name CEOs

S&P Global Market Intelligence presents a weekly news summary of executive management and board chair-level changes in the bank and thrift industry.

Sept. 3

Franklin, Tenn.-based Franklin Financial Network Inc. named J. Myers Jones III permanent CEO of the company and unit Franklin Synergy Bank, effective Aug. 28.

Jones was the interim CEO of the company and the bank.

Franklin Financial Network also named Lee Moss permanent president, a role he had on an interim basis. He is also the president of Franklin Synergy Bank.

Gina Thoma Peterson joined Avidbank and parent Avidbank Holdings Inc. as executive vice president and COO.

Her experience includes leading teams in the identification and mitigation of operational, regulatory and financial risks.

Dublin, Ga.-based Morris Bank, a unit of Morris State Bancshares Inc., named Chris Bond COO. Bond has been the bank's CFO since 2011 and will continue in that role as well.

Aug. 31

Andrew Jacob will succeed Ann Trakimas as the COO of CoBank ACB.

Trakimas will retire from the bank at the end of 2019. Jacob is the bank's chief regulatory, legislative and compliance officer.

Aug. 30

Lake Havasu City, Ariz.-based Horizon Community Bank's board appointed Ralph Tapscott president and COO.

Tapscott succeeds Jerry Ernst, who will remain as CEO until his retirement around the end of 2019. Ernst will continue to serve on the bank's board.

Tapscott's was president and CEO of Republic Bank of Arizona.

Horizon Community Bank is a unit of Horizon Bancorp Inc.

Aug. 29

Napoleon State Bank President and CEO Mark Comer will retire Jan. 31, 2020.

The bank's board appointed Joseph Moorman, executive vice president of the bank's lending division, to be the new president and CEO.

The Napoleon, Ind.-based bank is a unit of Napoleon Bancorp.

The boards of Annapolis, Md.-based Severn Bancorp Inc. and unit Severn Savings Bank FSB appointed Vance Adkins executive vice president and CFO of the company and the bank, effective Sept. 16.

Adkins' career includes serving as CFO of Roanoke, Va.-based HomeTown Bankshares Corp. and HomeTown Bank.

Thomas Vertin resigned as president, CEO and a director of Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Pacific Mercantile Bancorp and its unit, Pacific Mercantile Bank, effective Sept. 3, due to his desire to relocate to Northern California.

Brad Dinsmore succeeded Vertin as president, CEO and a director of the company and the bank, effective Sept. 3. Dinsmore's banking experience includes serving as corporate executive vice president for Atlanta-based SunTrust Banks Inc.
