Amazon.com Inc. will open a bookstore on M. Street in Georgetown, northwest Washington, D.C., its first in the area, The Washington Post reported March 12, citing Amazon Books Vice President Cameron Janes.
The 10,000-square-foot establishment will be in the same building where Barnes & Noble Inc. once operated, the Post said. Apart from books, the two-story store will sell tablets, electronics, toys and smart-home devices. It will also house a coffee bar downstairs that will be run by Allegro Coffee, a subsidiary of Whole Foods Market Inc.
The products will have a review card reflecting its Amazon.com rating, along with a brief customer review, instead of price tags. The newspaper said customers can scan the item's barcode using the Amazon app to check the price.
James said the Georgetown bookstore, which opens March 13, reaches college students, neighborhood residents and locals in the shopping district, according to the report.
