Itron to deploy smart meters for Lubbock Power & Light

Lubbock Power & Light selected Itron Inc. to provide smart meters and upgrade its electricity system in order to improve outage management and service reliability for the utility's nearly 107,000 customers in Texas.

Under the contract, Itron will deploy its smart meters to improve billing accuracy and eliminate manual meter reading. It also will manage network operations, endpoints and cloud infrastructure on Lubbock Power's behalf, according to a March 13 news release.

"The metering technology currently employed by LP&L passed its relevant life decades ago," said Greg Taylor, chairman of Lubbock Power. "With the implementation of advanced meters, LP&L will be joining the vast majority of our fellow Texas utilities in providing our customers more information and control over their energy usage."
