Fortescue files appeal against Yindjibarndi native title judgment

Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. has lodged an appeal against a judgment by Australia's federal court that the Yindjibarndi native title claimant group is entitled to exclusive rights over unallocated crown land occupied by the company's Solomon Hub iron ore mine in Western Australia's Pilbara region.

CEO Nev Power said Dec. 4 that the decision "relating to the concept of exclusive possession" will have wide-ranging consequences for investments in the resource, agriculture and tourism sectors.

The company filed the notice of appeal along with The Pilbara Infrastructure Pty. Ltd. and FMG Pilbara Pty. Ltd.
