PJSC Alrosa CEO Sergey Ivanov said the Russian diamond miner is not vying to acquire Toronto-listed Dominion Diamond Corp. at this stage, Reuters reported March 28, citing an emailed response from the CEO.
This comes after Dominion announced a review of its options, including the sale of the company or other strategic transactions, after receiving an unsolicited US$1.1 billion takeover offer from The Washington Companies.
Dominion said the board will consider a formal takeover offer, should it receive one. However, The Washington Companies has not submitted a formal offer.
Dominion operates the Ekati diamond mine and has a 40% interest in the Diavik mine, which is operated by Rio Tinto. Both mines are in Canada's Northwest Territories.
The company has also been in discussions with Stornoway Diamond Corp. since January for a potential tie-up.
