Merck KGaA to invest €1B in headquarters site until 2025

Merck KGaA is investing €1 billion in its site in Darmstadt, Germany — the location of the company's headquarters — until 2025.

The company's management struck a deal with Merck's Works Council to extend the employment guarantee until the end of 2025. The agreement is applicable for about 11,000 employees of the company in Darmstadt and the German towns of Gernsheim and Weiterstadt.

Merck is also exploring the possibility of constructing a new membrane plant at the location, and the company is planning to construct a vocational and advanced training center at the site.

Further, Merck's management and employee representatives agreed on a voluntary leaver program and a bridge model for early retirement.

The move follows the German company's vow in 2015 to invest a total of €1 billion at its global headquarters in the following five-year period.
