Amazon Studios signs up Spielberg, Bardem for miniseries

Amazon.com Inc.'s Amazon Studios has ordered a miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television and starring Javier Bardem, Variety reported March 26.

Bardem will play Spanish explorer Hernan Cortes in the as-yet-untitled four-episode series about an expedition that led to the fall of the Aztec Empire.

"Schindler's List" writer Steven Zaillian created the series, which will be adapted from a 1960s screenplay titled "Montezuma" by the late Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.

Amblin Television's Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will serve as executive producers of the series, along with Zaillian, Bardem and Spielberg.
