Hella GmbH & Co. KGaA on June 11 opened a new electronics plant in Mexico, which is expected to create up to 250 jobs in its first development phase.
The 11,000-square-meter plant in Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato, will focus on manufacturing products such as body-control units, electronic power-steering-control units and electronic-authentication devices called key fobs.
The auto parts supplier said the new facility, already in production, is in addition to its two existing Mexican lighting plants in Irapuato and El Salto, where Hella expanded the capacity at the end of 2017.
With the expansion, the German company now employs more than 3,000 staff in the region.
In addition to Mexico, Hella is also expanding its electronics capacity in Shanghai and building additional electronics facilities in India and Lithuania.
