Report: Alliance announces Ky. coal mine layoffs amid mine closure

Alliance Resource Partners LP is laying off 40 employees at the Dotiki coal mine in Kentucky, according to a local ABC-affiliated television station.

WEHT, which serves northwestern Kentucky, reported that a WARN Notice dated Dec. 9 said that those employees of Alliance subsidiary Webster County Coal LLC are expected to lose their jobs, effective Feb. 7, 2020.

Alliance announced in August that it would stop producing coal from the mine to focus on its lower-cost Illinois Basin operations. The mine produced nearly 2.5 million tons of coal last year.
